I look in the mirror and what do I see ? a poem by Ruth Warden
I look in the mirror and what do I see ?
I see my reflection look back at me,
Sad expression on the face,
WHO IS THIS ?
Who looks at me ?
It’s not the face it used to be,
I don’t know this person
WHO IS SHE ?
I don’t like this face that
looks back at me
I walk past a shop window and glance to see,
if that face looks back at me.
She’s there again,
I don’t like what I see,
I don’t want that face to look back at me.
I go for a walk in the black of the night,
to rid me of the face
that looks back at me.
I look to the stars and see the moon,
its' bright light shines
A quick glance to see if she’s there,
a pool of water smears the ground
That same face looks back at me,
I don’t like that face that looks at me.
I fall asleep to escape that face that looks back at me,
I dream of days that used to be,
but still I see that face that looks at me.
I no longer want to see that face,
that face that looks back at me,
I fall asleep and what do I see,
I see a face that was once me
I look down below to see that face that haunted me,
that face that looked back at me.
